Ricky, born Eric Opoku, is a Ghanaian contemporary music artist, singer, and songwriter known for his expressive blend of Afrobeats, Afropop, and Hiplife. His sound is both modern and deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture — a fusion of emotive storytelling, vibrant melodies, and lyrical honesty.

He was born in Manso Antwere, a town in the Amansie West District of Ghana’s Ashanti Region. His early years were spent in Bekwai, where his father worked as a teacher. There, he attended SDA Junior High School, before continuing to Osei Tutu Senior High School and later, Christian Service University College in Kumasi.
Though he pursued academics, Ricky’s heart was always with music. After completing high school, he relocated to Accra to explore his passion more seriously. It was there he had a formative experience working on a project with the late Ghanaian music legend Castro — an encounter that confirmed music was more than a dream; it was his destiny.
However, valuing education, Ricky made the bold choice to return to Kumasi and complete university before fully launching his career.
Upon graduating, Ricky officially stepped into the music industry with “Dɔ No Bi”, a reflective love song that introduced his signature emotional tone and narrative voice. He followed up with “Joy”, a hopeful anthem centered around triumph over hardship. Both songs gained critical and fan acclaim, especially for his seamless chemistry with Strongman and his ability to fuse personal stories with commercial appeal.
Now based in Accra, Ricky is actively recording and releasing music, performing, and building a loyal fanbase. His sound is influenced by Ghanaian greats like Kojo Antwi, Obrafour, and Castro, as well as international icons like Wizkid, Drake, and Burna Boy. Ricky’s lyrics often revolve around love, resilience, heartbreak, identity, and the human experience — themes that connect powerfully with both Ghanaian and global audiences.
