Why Single Mothers Struggle To Find Partners – Joselyn Dumas |
Why Single Mothers Struggle To Find Partners Joselyn Dumas - Ghanaian actress and TV personality Joselyn Dumas has addressed the hurdles single mothers face when re-entering the dating world, noting societal biases as a significant challenge.
In a YouTube video, she recounted a personal story where a friend expressed reluctance to date a woman with a child, fearing the responsibility of raising a non-biological child. Dumas highlighted this mindset as a contributing factor to the difficulty single mothers encounter in finding partners.
“Let me tell you why we don’t go out and marry. I spoke to a friend of mine here, Anthony. He said, ‘Me, I will never be with a born one’. “His reason was, ‘Why would I come and raise somebody else’s child? That’s not my bloodline. He doesn’t have any trace of my DNA in him. Why am I going to now help someone’s bloodline grow? What about mine?’
“And I said to myself that this is the reason why a lot of single mothers are single with their children,” he said.
Dumas also criticized the disparity in perspectives regarding raising non-biological children, arguing that it should not be viewed differently from adoption. She stressed that the decision to raise a child, whether biologically related or not, involves significant sacrifice and necessity rather than a preference for single life.
